Planned features

The photo widget works today on the iPhone Home Screen and is being tested in CarPlay. Countdowns and reminders are next.

Photo widget

Pick one photo or a small album. It can rotate through your pictures during the day.

Countdowns

Days until a trip, a birthday or an anniversary, readable at a glance.

Car reminders

Oil change, inspection or insurance renewal. You enter the date once; the widget shows what's coming up.

Before you download: what CarPlay allows

CarPlay does not let any app change its wallpaper or app icons. CarWidgets shows your photos and reminders in the widget area on the left side of the CarPlay screen, which Apple added in iOS 26. If you were hoping to replace the whole background with a photo, no app can do that today. Read why.

How it works

  1. Create a widget in the app on your iPhone: choose a photo, a countdown or a reminder.
  2. Connect your iPhone to your car.
  3. On your iPhone, open Settings › General › CarPlay, choose your car, then Widgets › Add Widgets and add CarWidgets. Full guide.

Questions

Which iPhones and cars work?

An iPhone on iOS 26 or later and any car or aftermarket head unit that supports Apple CarPlay. Some aftermarket screens update slowly and may not show widgets yet.

Does it read data from my car?

No. CarPlay doesn't share mileage or sensor data with apps. Reminders are based on the dates you enter.

Does it work with Android Auto?

No. This is an iPhone app for Apple CarPlay.
